As you may know, I am mum to my beautiful boy Alfie. I am also a businesswoman when it comes to running PandiBakes. Being a mum and running a business can be difficult at times, as there can be a stigma around being a strong woman while also a loving mother. Here, I would like to share with you how I like to be a mum, run a business and also have fun.
When I say treat yourself, I don’t necessarily mean going out for an ice cream every time you do something right (although that is something I would definitely do!), I mean, treat yourself mentally. It’s all well and good to give yourself a physical reward, but mentally giving yourself a break is tough. Know that you are doing your best, because you love everything you are doing and want all of those aspects to succeed.
Something which I have never quite understood is how people think that by doing every single part of your life by yourself, whether it be running a business or being a parent, is always admirable. Help is needed for everything and it is nothing to be ashamed of. We choose our own friends and family in life, so if there are people willing out there to help you on your journey, never be afraid to ask for it.
Make Your Own Rules
Society is a strange thing where there are no written rules when it comes to running your life, but there are still so many opinions that are constantly stuck in your head about it. ‘You should be doing this’ or ‘You shouldn’t be doing that’. My advice...block it all out. Yes, listening to what others have to say is good when their advice is worth it, but if people are telling you what you should be doing with your life just for the sake of it, then don’t listen.
There is no one way to be organised. Some people keep everything they have to do in a book and tick it off when they’re done, others set out certain hours of their day for tasks they know they have to do and never stray from those times. It doesn’t matter how you do it, just that you find a way to not be stressed about all the things you may have to do.
Time for Yourself
When you run a business and are a mother, you are constantly giving yourself to other people. Not that I’m complaining, I would happily give everything of myself to my son, but there are times when we as parents and businesswomen need that time to ourselves to recharge. Never feel guilty for taking that time for you, because afterwards you will be better off to everyone in your life.
